Purification Method of Crude Butyl Acrylate

01/

Extraction
Using water as the extractant, the crude butyl acrylate product obtained from the esterification reaction is continuously extracted with the extraction agent; the organic acid catalyst in the crude butyl acrylate product enters the water phase, and the butyl acrylate and by-products enter the raffinate. The organic phase is separated and the raffinate organic phase is continuously fed into the static mixer.

02/

Washing and Recovery
The reaction mixture material in step 2 enters the washing tower and is washed. The butyl acrylate and the by-products of removing organic acids in the reaction mixture material flow out from the upper part of the washing tower, and the salts produced by the neutralization reaction and dissolved in The impurities in the water flow out from the bottom of the washing tower, and the organic components in the bottom liquid are recovered.

03/

Mixing and Neutralization
The liquid caustic soda continuously enters the static mixer, and is continuously and fully mixed with the raffinate organic phase to perform a neutralization reaction, remove organic acids in the by-products, and obtain a reaction mixture material with a pH of 9 to 12.

04/

Separation and Purification
Butyl acrylate and the by-products of removing organic acids are distilled to remove the light components and heavy components to obtain butyl acrylate product.

A: Butyl acrylate (BA) is the ester of acrylic acid and n-butanol. It is used as a raw material for fiber processing agents, adhesives, coatings, plastics, acrylic rubber, and emulsions. Our butyl acrylate has very low-level impurities and may be used as a raw material for a wide variety of chemicals.

Q: What is tert butyl acrylate used for?

A: Tert-Butyl acrylate (TBA) is used for the production of solid polymers, aqueous dispersions, and polymer solutions, which are used as coatings, binders, adhesives, and sealants in the automotive industry, in the rubber, paint and varnish, pulp and paper and other industries.

Q: Does butyl acrylate break down in water?

A: In water, butyl acrylate is relatively stable to hydrolysis at acidic and neutral pHs (half-life ≥ 1100 days) but will slowly volatilize to air (Henry's law constant of 21.9 Pa m–3 mol−1 at 25 °C) or be biodegraded (58–90% removal in 28 days).

Q: What happens if I drink butyl acrylate?

A: The substance is irritating to the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. If this liquid is swallowed, aspiration into the lungs may result in chemical pneumonitis. The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation and through the skin.

Q: Is butyl acrylate a plastic?

A: Thermoplastic polymers of ethylene and butyl acrylate (EBA) are thermoplastic resins that can be easily processed on conventional blown-and-cast film and sheet-forming equipment. They are produced in high-pressure autoclaves and tubular reactors via free-radical polymerization chemistries.

Q: How harmful is butyl acetate?

A: Contact can irritate the skin and eyes.
Breathing sec-Butyl Acetate can irritate the nose and throat causing coughing and difficult breathing.
High exposure can cause headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness and coma.
Prolonged or repeated skin contact can cause cracking and drying of exposed areas.

Q: What is butyl acrylate made from?

A: Butyl acrylate can be manufactured by reacting n-butanol with acrylic acid in the presence of an acid catalyst in an elevated temperature zone to produce butyl acrylate, water and other by-products. The product mixture is then purified in a distillation zone to create a higher purity of butyl acrylate.

Q: Is butyl acrylate organic?

A: Butyl acrylate is an organic compound with the formula C 4H 9O 2CCH=CH 2. A colorless liquid, it is the butyl ester of acrylic acid. It is used commercially on a large scale as a precursor to poly(butyl acrylate).

Q: Is butyl acrylate mutagenic?

A: N-Butyl acrylate is rapidly absorbed and hydrolysed in experimental animals exposed orally. Exposure of rats to n-butyl acrylate vapours leads to hyperplasia of the nasal mucosa. In assays for genotoxicity/mutagenicity considered, results for n-butyl acrylate were generally negative.

Q: What is the safe level of butyl acrylate in water?

A: MRL is an estimate of the amount of a chemical a person can eat, drink, or breathe each day without detectable risk to health. The MRL for butyl acrylate is 560 ppb. A print out from ATSDR (Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry) is attached to this letter.

Q: Is butyl acrylate hydrophobic?

A: Butyl Acrylate (BA) is an ester of Acrylic acid and is used as a raw material component in the synthesis of polymers. Butyl Acrylate (BA) is a monofunctional monomer consisting of an acrylate group with a characteristic high reactivity and a cyclic hydrophobic group.

Q: What are the environmental concerns for butyl acrylate?

A: While butyl acrylate has many industrial applications, it can pose significant environmental hazards. Butyl acrylate can contaminate water, soil, and air when released into the environment. Inhaling or ingesting butyl acrylate can irritate the eyes, nose, throat, and skin, and exposure over long periods may increase the risk of cancer.
