(1)Product introduction

Acetonitrile, often abbreviated to MeCN (methyl cyanide), is a colorless, transparent liquid with an aromatic odor. This colorless liquid is the simplest organic nitrile (hydrocyanic acid is a simpler nitrile, but the cyanide anion is not an organic compound) and is toxic if absorbed through the skin. It is less dense than water and its vapor is denser than air. It is produced primarily as a byproduct of the manufacture of acrylonitrile. It is used as a polar aprotic solvent in organic synthesis and in the purification of butadiene.

(4)Main application

Acetonitrile can be used as a solvent for the synthesis of vitamin A, cortisone, carboamine drugs and their intermediates, as well as an active medium solvent for the manufacture of vitamin B₁ and amino acids. It can replace chlorinated solvents.
